History of the Waterford Wave

The Waterford Wave was founded in 1993 by Jim Batcha, Gary Stepp, Keith Martin and Scott  Woodhull.  The idea was to prepare girls for high school basketball and playing other competitive teams outside the school basketball season.  Without the foresight and hard work of these individuals the Waterford Wave would not be what it is today. The Waterford Wave started with only 3 teams and has grown to 14 teams with ages of 9U to 17U.  Back then there was only 25 AAU teams in the State of Michigan. Today there are hundred, the Waterford Wave is the largest AAU travel club in Michigan as well as one of the oldest, we are proud to say that many of our girls have gone on to play college basketball in Division 1, 2 and 3 schools, some of our coaches have gone on to coach at the high school level as well.
